New Senior Living Community Breaks Ground in Pine City

On Thursday, December 5, Pine City broke ground (well, snow) for the new Timber Pines Senior Living Community at its location on Northridge Drive near Welia Health.

The community will be managed by Walker Methodist and will feature 103 senior apartments that will include independent and assisted living and memory care facilities.

“Our mission at Walker [Methodist] is life and all the living that goes with it - enhancing the lives of older adults through a culture of care, respect, and service," said Walker Methodist's CEO Scott Riddle. “What we are going to bring to Pine City is a new approach, an updated approach, to senior living."

Riddle went onto say that Walker plans on doing this by serving great food, focusing on wellness (both mind and body) and fitness, and through meaningful programming and activities.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Pine City Mayor Carl Pederson was excited to welcome in a project that would not only expand the city's workforce but also allow residents to stay in the community they live in.

"We are committed as a council to try and bring things to our community that will enhance the economic viability and provide opportunities for people to not have to move somewhere, rather age in place in our own community," Pederson said.

In a September segment on WCMP's Morning Show, Walker's Vice President of Operations Annelise Peterson said that this community will add around 60 to 75 job opportunities to the area.

The senior living facility is expected to open in 2021.
