GOP Candidates for Governor Visit Hinckley

Last night Republican candidates running for governor in 2018 spoke and talked one on one to the public in Hinckley.

The Pine County Republicans hosted the event at Tobies in Hinckley with a selection of 2018 candidates for governor, congress, and also U.S. Senate.

Governor Mark Dayton’s Republican challenger in 2014 Jeff Johnson is running once more after just a five point loss that year.

Former Minnesota Republican Chair Keith Downey is also throwing his hat into the ring.

Pine City’s representative Jason Rarick was also present, as well as the Minnesota Republican Party Chair Jennifer Carnahan.

Charges for Pine City Murder

The juvenile suspect in Friday’s shooting in Pine City has been charged.

Patrick James Root, 17, has been charged as an adult for second degree murder in the death of Timothy Hughes, 22, of Pine City at Pine Terrace Trailer Park in Pine City.

The murder took place after a drug deal between the two went awry, and Root went after Hughes for selling him fake marijuana.

Root then left the scene and attempted to hide the gun and ammunition by throwing them in a ditch, where they were located by officers.

The report continues that Root tried to remove evidence of the crime by cleaning the gun, according to a witness.

The juvenile later admitted to the crime and confessed it was a stolen gun.
