Pine City School Board Vote No on Granite Ridge Conference

Joe Keyport

The Pine City School Board voted no on joining the Granite Ridge Conference. The vote happened during a special board meeting held on Monday of this week.

The school board spoke with the coaches and music directors most of which were against the conference change. Pine City Superintendent Annette Freiheit said, "About 75% of that group were against it."

Freiheit explained that the music department did support a conference change because Granite Ridge would offer more competition from school districts with larger programs.

Most of the people involved agreed that the Granite Ridge conference would provide more competition for Pine City schools, but it was the distance that students and coaches would have to travel that made the change impractical.
