A Pine County man is dead after his car was struck while he put gas into it.
On Tuesday, December 11, Pine County dispatch received a report of two vehicles in the ditch on Laketown Rd near General Andrews Drive in Sturgeon Lake around 9:30 at night. A second 911 call revealed the incident was a collision and that male is unresponsive, lying in the ditch.
Deputies and along with first responders from Sturgeon Lake and Willow River and Mercy Ambulance rushed to the scene.
The victim was taken to Mercy Hospital before being transferred to a hospital in Duluth where he was pronounced dead.
The Pine County Sheriff's Office reports that preliminary information shows the victim may have been outside the vehicle when it was hit by the second vehicle.
Pine County is being assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol in the investigation.
The name of the deceased will be released pending notification of family.
