Xcel Energy is asking its customers in Becker, Big Lake, Chisago City, Lindstrom, Princeton, and Isanti to turn down their thermostats in order to conserve natural gas.
The call comes as harsh cold weather is putting a strain on their supply. Xcel is strongly urging that their users turn their thermostats down to 60 degrees or lower and refrain from using appliances that run on natural gas.
The energy provider says that customer cooperation is vital to preventing widespread outages.
Xcel recommends that their customers switch to electric space heaters in order to keep their houses warm.
