Wisconsin DNR Rejects Initial Hog CAFO Application

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has rejected the initial application for the large-scale hog operation proposed to be built off Highway 48 in the Town of Trade Lake.

The DNR cites concerns over wetlands and manure storage. With the letter addressed to Jeff Sauer of Cumberland LLC saying, "alternative wetland permit options would need to be explored based on anticipated wetland disturbances with the proposed site layout," and that it was ultimately denied "due to the potential for significant site design changes."

This news comes as a small victory for the people who have been protesting the proposed facility for years.

Cumberland LLC has the ability to appeal the rejection within 30 days of receiving the letter.

WCMP will continue to provide updates on this story as more information becomes available.
