The Rush City Tigers Softball team picked up right where they left off last season with an impressive double-header victory over Hinckley-Finlayson on Thursday afternoon. Both teams were very excited to finally get outside and get some game action in after a snow season that held on longer than usual.

The Tigers started off hot picking up a 7-0 win in the first game and closing up with a 9-4 win.

From the Rush City Fastpitch Softball Facebook Page:

The Tigers made the trek north to Hinckley for a double header – 2 five innings games. Both were very good games – with both teams displaying good defense and pitching. The Tigers prevailed 7-0 in the first game and 9-4 in the second. Buehring got wins in both games, with Voight closing out the second game.
In the first game, the Tigers lead only 2-0 with one inning left. However, they scored 5 in the top of the 5th, to win 7-0. The Tigers defense was sound. Bowen and Gilbert lead the way defensively, with Bowen fielding four outs and Gilbert fielding three. To set the tone defensively, after a 6-3 groundout, the second batter walked and got to second. The number three hitter hit to Gilbert, who threw her out at first. The runner on 2nd tried to advance after the throw, but first baseman LaMont threw her out at third to end the threat.
Offensively – Rood and Buehring had two hits. Gilbert had a hit and worked a walk. Biermaier also had a hit, - a double down the line. LaMont “took one for the team” and got hit by the pitch – didn’t even flinch
The leading scorers were Rood and Gilbert, with two each. Bowen, Biermaier, and Williams each crossed the plate once.

In the second game, the Tigers were the home team and got three quick outs. Then they scored three in the bottom of the first. However, the Jaguars scored four in the top of the 2nd to go up 4-3. The Tigers could have easily hung their heads, but instead they warmed up the bats and scored four of their own in the bottom of the second to regain the lead. After that, their defense shut the Jaguars down and the Tigers added two more runs to win by the score of 9-4. Buehring pitched the first 4 1/3 innings and Voight came in to finish off the last 2/3.
Leading the way offensively was Bowen with two hits, including an in the park home run. Biermaier, Williams, Buehring (a double), and Cecelia Peterson each had a hit. Working walks were Biermaier and Katie McDonald.
Scoring 2 runs for the Tigers were Bowen, Biermaier, and Williams. Scoring once was Groh, Selena Schmidt, and Shelby Holmstrom –This is Selena’s and Shelby’s first varsity runs scored – the first of many.
Lots of good came out of these games. Mora tomorrow – in Mora – 5:00 start. Hope to see you there.
