The Minnesota Department of Public Safety has reported that over 400 DWI arrests were made during the holiday weekend.

In a tweet, the DPS stated that they had made 143 arrests between midnight on Thanksgiving and 6 a.m. Friday.

Overall, 480 arrests were made between Wednesday, November 21 and Monday, November 26 which is less than the number of arrests made in 2017 during the same time.

The MN DPS reports that 28 deaths have been attributed to driving while intoxicated with in the last five years.

While the number of total DWI arrests reported in 2017 (24,862 arrests) were higher than 2016 (24,059 arrests), the number of drunk driving arrests have significantly decreased over the last ten years.

The arrests were made as part of a statewide crackdown on drunk driving that will go until Saturday, December 29.
