A 74-year-old Isanti County man is dead after a lit cigarette ignited oxygen in a home near the City of Isanti.

Authorities were called to a home on 5600 block of 263 Ave NE at 6:18 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.

According to a press release from the Isanti County Sheriff's Office, emergency responders found the body of Lawrence Tuma inside the home.

Upon further investigation, it appears that Tuma tried to light a cigarette that caused a flash fire from an oxygen tank, and his death was caused by smoke inhalation from the fire.

The fire remains under investigation by the Isanti County Sheriff's Office and the State Fire Marshall.
