Braham Defeats Barnum in Double OT

Braham hosted Barnum on Tuesday afternoon.

It's the annual battle of the Bombers, whether it's fall, winter or spring these two teams seem to play during every season. This time during Christmas break, and as the game began it seemed like the early start time along with it being in the middle of Xmas break, gave these teams some rust to knock off.

Both teams like to push the pace, and that's what they tried to do early on. But it was a bit of a struggle early on. The defenses were making stops early on, but turnovers also played a factor. Fouls were also piling up, it was a bit of a sloppy start. But as the 1st half went on, the teams slowly started to get into rhythm. Barnum was able to take the a lead and hold onto throughout the rest of the 1st half. Braham while down by double digits late in the half, was able to erase that deficit and get back within three at half trailing 33-30.

Both teams came out in the 2nd half firing. But it was Braham who took momentum early on, and took the lead and held onto it for nearly twelve minutes. As the 2nd half neared its close, Barnum had fought back from their deficit. They had swung momentum in their favor and the Braham offense went ice cold. With under 20 seconds left Barnum had tied the game and had possession. They were hot from three and had only missed maybe 2 or 3 of their attempts in the last five minutes. And they looked to take the final shot for the win. As time expired the shot went up but missed and we were headed for overtime tied at 64.

Barnum carried over their momentum from the end of regulation, and controlled much of the OT period. But Braham had found a way to fight back and get enough shots to fall to keep it close. Barnum had piled up the fouls and Braham was well into the bonus. But Braham had plenty of opportunities to put the game away at the free throw line, but they struggled to get those shots to fall. This kept Barnum alive and these teams battled but at the end of the 1st OT, the teams were still tied at 73.

The 2nd OT was all Braham, they held Barnum to 4 points in the 2nd OT and their offense, while not as hot as before, did plenty to keep the lead. They were able to score 15 points and at the end of the 2nd OT they came away with the 88-77 victory.

Braham improves to 4-2 on the season and will host Upsala on Friday.
