Buchanan's 28 Points Lifts Jags over Proctor

On Friday night the Hinckley-Finlayson boys basketball team hosted Proctor.

Both teams were looking to help improve their section standings before playoffs with a win in this game. The teams wanted to get off to a fast start and they did just that. They traded the lead many times but Proctor soon found themselves with a 17-11 lead. The Jaguars didn't let that lead last too long and soon tied the game once again. Late in the 1st half the Jags grabbed a 5 point lead but soon watched the Rails storm back to tie it yet again. Proctor would hold a 32-31 into halftime.

The 2nd half proved to be just as fun, entertaining and intense as the 1st. Neither team could pull away and the games largest lead of 6 was never matched. It was like watching two heavyweights throw haymakers and neither one was phased. As the game pushed to its end, the game was tied at 67. The Rails were at the free throw line with a chance to take the lead, but they couldn't convert and the Jaguars would grab the rebound. Jon Buchanan, who had been a key part to their game plan all night, made a layup and gave his team a 2 point lead. The Jags would get the ball back on a turnover by the Rails. The Rails fouled and sent Buchanan to the line. Though he missed the first he hit the second free throw to extend the lead to 3. Now with only three seconds left Rails had no time but to shoot from beyond the arc. They did and the shot was not on target and the Jags came away with a huge win 70-67.

Hinckley-Finlayson now sits at 12-12 on the year and will wrap up their regular season against Barnum and Mora.
