The Lady Dragons basketball team hosted Mille Lacs on Tuesday night.
The game didn't get off to a hot start for Pine City despite them leading early. Compared to their last meeting with the Raiders where they put up 92 points, this game started alittle slow for the Dragons. But again early in the game they already built up a double digit lead and their defense was simply terrorizing the Raiders offense. About half the points the Dragons put on the board in the first 5 minutes came off of turnovers. Summer Thieman scored 12 of her 15 first half points off of fast break runs from a turnover. If they weren't creating turnovers, Karly Jusczak was giving the ball back on rebounds, she had 13 in the first half alone. But the Dragons got contributions from the entire team, whether it be on defense or offense the team was firing on all cylinders. Pine City went into half with a commanding 47-10 lead.
The Dragon starters didn't play long in the 2nd half as they had firm control of the game. But the bench players came in a did a phenomenal job on both sides of the ball. They held Mille Lacs to 6 points in the second half and added 20 more to their lead. In a lopsided game the backups got significant time to run the play on the court and looked very much like veterans. The Dragons cruised to a 67-16 win.
With the win Pine City improves to 10-4 on the season and remains unbeaten in conference play. They'll travel to Hinckley-Finlayson on Thursday.
The Raiders fall to 2-12 on year and will have their next chance for a win on Friday at East Central, who they've beat already this year.
