Hinckley-Finlayson baseball hosted East Central on Friday.
Just the day prior the Jags had a game postponed due to rain and poor field conditions. Although it was still raining these two teams were not going to have this game moved. And so these teams took the field despite the cold and rain.
Early on in this game the offenses struggled, not because of the weather but the pitching was stout. H-F's Carson Hopkins and EC's Grady Swenson each came out firing and keeping hitters off balance. When they were striking batters out, the defense made plays to get the outs. The Jags were able to get on the board first in the 3rd inning, after two leadoff singles and then a fielders choice which wound up scoring the run. Now this game felt like whoever was able to score first may go on to win the game. This was not the case. The very next inning East Central was able to answer back. After loading the bases with three walks, an RBI single tied the game. They would go on to score 4 more runs that inning taking a now 5-1 lead. The Jags were aggressive trying to get the runs back both at the plate and on the base paths. But the closest they would get was a triple. The Eagles would add one more run in the 6th and go on to win 6-1.
The Eagles improve to 7-9 on the season and play Rush City today.
For the Jags they are still searching for their 2nd win on the season. They will play their rescheduled game vs Braham today.
