Eagles Grab Key Conference Win Over Pine City

Pine City hosted East Central on Friday night in a boys Great River Conference battle.

The game got off to a slow start for both teams, but that was in large part due to the defenses playing very well. The Dragons would score first and get out to an early lead. Even though they weren't down by much, East Central still made quick work to erase their deficit and tie the game. As the first half neared its end Pine City found themselves with a 10 point lead 24-14. The Dragons certainly felt they had found some rhythm on the court. The Eagles however switched momentum in a hurry. They would go on a 10-0 run to end the half tied at 24!

The second half saw both sides play with a little more urgency, knowing how quickly the other side can turn the game around. Defense was still a big part of the 2nd half as they were the ones grabbing a majority of the rebounds. As the half played on towards its end the offenses started to get rolling. Teams continued to trade the lead but the Eagles tied the game a 46 late. Not long after tying the game East Central hit a 3 to take a 49-46 lead with under a minute left. The Dragon's Luke Wilson would get off a last second shot but it would not fall and the Eagles clinch a huge conference win early in the season!

With the loss Pine City falls to 0-2 and 0-1 in the conference. They will host St Francis on Tuesday night.

With their victory East Central moves to 2-2 and 2-0 in the conference. They'll travel to Barnum on Tuesday.
