East Central's Comeback Falls Short Against Ely

East Central hosted Ely for their homecoming game on Friday night. Ely came in 1-5 and East Central was 0-6 and looking for their first victory of the season.

The two teams traded blows in the first quarter. There were five touchdowns between the two teams, including back-to-back kickoff returns by both teams. The score at the end of the opening quarter was 24-16.

Ely then dominated the second quarter. The Timberwolves ran the ball really well and forced a couple turnovers. By the end of the half, Ely opened up the game taking a 50-16 lead into the break.

East Central answered on the opening drive of the second half. The Eagles found some success through the air. They also stood up defensively and stymied the Timberwolves running game that was so successful in the first half.

On the brink of running clock, East Central mounted a comeback to get close to Ely. Outscoring the Wolves 24-8 in the second half wasn’t enough, but it pumped life into the Eagles.

Jarid Dornseif was the Pine Insurance player of the game scoring three touchdowns on the night.

Ely improved to 2-5 on the season and will host Braham on Wednesday night.

East Central will fall to 0-7 and will travel to Chisholm on Wednesday night.
