East Central Take the Great River Conference Title!

The Eagles boys basketball team hosted Ogilvie on Friday night.

A lot was on the line for the Eagles on Friday night, a win gave them the conference title a loss made it a three way tie and also possibly gave them a worse seeding in playoffs.

Early on the Eagles dominated the floor, whether it was getting rebounds, creating turnovers or finding open shots. East Central had jumped out to an early double digit lead. But a couple Ogilvie timeouts helped turn things around. The Lions soon started to find success from beyond the arc which helped close the gap quickly. They were also doing a better job boxing out and keeping the 2nd chance opportunities away from the Eagles. The Lions pulled within a couple possessions of the lead, that's when the Eagles began to pull away. East Central turned up the pace and found plenty of open shots, the defense shut down the Lions offense. They would go into halftime with a 44-23 lead.

As the 2nd half began the Eagles started right where they left off. The offense couldn't miss and if they did they were easily able to grab the rebounds and put it back in. The defense suffocated the Lions offense and barely gave them an opportunity to shoot. Ogilvie fought hard but it just wasn't there night. They would find streaks of play where things looked to get back on track, but East Central was too dominant. The Eagles came away with the victory in the regular season finale 88-45.

With the win the Eagles finish the year at 16-9 and 10-2 in the conference. The win also gave them the Great River Conference title!

East Central is the #2 seed on the playoffs and will host Braham on Thursday.

Ogilvie finishes the year 7-18 and is the #6 seed and will play at Kaleidoscope Charter School on Thursday.
