Jags Fall to Floodwood

Hinckley-Finlayson hosted Floodwood on Monday night.

The Jags started off a busy homecoming week against one of the top teams in Class A volleyball.

H-F came into the week having won their first match of the season over the weekend. Floodwood came out very confident and played mistake free volleyball early on in the opening set. The Jags struggled with communication and getting to the right spots at times. The Polar Bears were able to run away with the 1st set 25-10.

Floodwood got off to a good start in set 2, but H-F quickly turned momentum in their favor. One of the biggest keys to their success in the 2nd set, was their fearlessness. They made a plethora of blocks and some really impressive diving digs to keep the play alive. And they were rewarded for there efforts more times than not. The Jags were able to get Floodwood off track for alittle bit and keep the score within a couple. But the Polar Bears were able to get a few big kills from their best hitter, which swung momentum back their way. They were able to claim the set 25-15.

The 3rd set was lopsided early on, not because H-F was playing poorly, but because Floodwood was playing at such a high level and making virtually no mistakes. As the set neared its end, the Jags were down big, but were not going to fall away quietly. The Jags were facing match point and needed a bunch. They were able to make a run and create doubt in the minds of the Floodwood players. Although the Jags run would come up short, they definitely have confidence going forward.

The Jags week continues with 2 more games, Tuesday at Braham, Thursday at Cromwell-Wright.

Our Pine Insurance Player of the Game was Kendra Harris!
