Hinckley-Finlayson hosted Mora on Thursday night.
Coming into the night, the Jags had not won a game and had only won 3 sets, while the Mustangs were top six in the section and looked to keep pace with the top spot in the conference.
In both the first two sets Mora had jumped out to an early lead and took control early. They both looked like they'd be blowout sets, but the Jags deserve a ton of credit. They could've easily hung their heads and gave up, but they continued to battle and fight their way back. While they still lost the first two sets, something was building on their side.
In the third the Jags were able to score first and that grew their confidence. Mora was able to overtake their lead and it wasn't long before they were well out in front. But again the Jags battled back and it paid off. Slowly but surely H-F went on a scoring run, getting a point here, a Mora error there and sooner than later they were within only a couple points of the Mora lead. A Mustang timeout only seemed to fuel the Jags fire and they rattled off all the points they needed to not only tie the game and take the lead but to win the set 25-22. All of a sudden it was a brand new ball game.
Mora 's confidence certainly took a hit, but they were able to quickly put that behind them. They started the 4th set on a high note, and while there still a few uncharacteristic errors, they played well throughout. But just as they appeared to be running away with it, the Jags went on a scoring run to get back into it. Mora would pull away again only for the Jags to again get back within a few. But Mora's determination was too much and they were able to win set four 25-16 and the match 3-1.
While the Jaguars remain winless, they should have a lot of confidence going forward because they are headed in the right direction.
Mora moves to 11-6 and stays one game out of first place in the conference.
