Hinckley-Finlayson hosted Carlton-Wrenshall on Monday.
The Jags were coming off a week where they won a game by over 20 runs and beat the #1 team in the conference in Aitkin. This week was the last week of the regular season, and they needed a few more win to help better their section standings. And it all started against Carlton-Wrenshall.
As the away team, the Raptors were up to bat first. After a quick fly out, the next batter reach on a single, she eventually reached third due to an error. The next batter drove home the run to give them a 1-0 lead before the Jags were up to bat. H-F would not only answer the run they gave up, they would bat through the entire order, scoring 5 runs on 4 hits. They managed to keep the Raptors off the board in the 2nd, while they added a run to make it a 6-1 lead. The Raptors were able to get a couple of hit and score a run while holding the Jags without one of their own in the 3rd. Now in the 4th Natalie Stafne hit a two out triple and eventually scored to make it a 7-2 lead. H-F's defense was getting better as the game went along, and that showed as they once again held the Raptors from getting a run in the top of the 5th. But the 5th inning as a whole will be remembered for the offense. While they only managed 4 hits, they did force 2 errors by Carlton-Wrenshall because of their hard hitting and hard base running. One of those 4 hits was career hit 100 for Lainey Johnson! They were able to cross 5 runs in the inning which lead the game to end due to the ten run rule 12-2.
The Jags would go on to beat Crosby-Ironton on Tuesday 19-0, before falling to Braham on Wednesday 15-0. They will end the regular season on Friday at East Central.
As it stands right now, the Jags are #9 seed in the section. The playoffs brackets should be set by the weekend.
