The Hinckley Knights hosted the winless Braham Snappers last night.
The Snappers came into Brennan Field looking for their first win on the year, and the Knights wanted to defend home field as this was their last home game for over two weeks.
Braham started out quickly by getting their second batter on base, but as quickly as it started it fizzled out just as quick. Max Sickler got the start on the mound for the Knights and didn't let the one baserunner become a threat. In the bottom of the 1st, Hinckley's bats were hot, white hot. They scored 4 runs and nearly batted through the order in one inning. The Snappers couldn't get past Sickler and the Knights went right back to work at the plate. Another 4 runs came across the plate for Hinckley in the 2nd inning and there was no sign of the Knights slowing down. Another hitless inning for the Snappers meant Hinckley would stroll back to the plate. For the 3rd inning in a row the Knights would again score 4 runs. And they weren't done there. In the 4th inning however Braham started to find some life. Batters became more patient at the plate and soon enough they scored a run. Braham had runners on the corners and a wild pitch from Sickler helped the man on 3rd to score. Sickler would walk the next batter and his night was over. Dez Letexier would come in to finish the inning holding the Snappers to the one run. In the bottom of the 4th the Knights scored two more, both were bases loaded walks. Hinckley lead 14-1 going into the 5th inning. In a similar way to the previous inning the Snappers scored another run by way of wild pitch. But that was all they would get from the Knights. Neither team was able to score another run as the game finished in the 7th inning with the 10 run rule, with the Knights winning 14-2.
Sickler pitched 3 2/3 innings with 6 strikeouts and allowed only 2 hits. Letexier pitched the next 2 1/3 innings allwoing 2 hits, and Jerrod Brennan finish off the last inning allowing no hits and grabbing a strikeout.
The Knights improved to 14-5 on the year and will travel to Quamba to play the Cubs on Friday. An important game for both teams as Hinckley currently holds a .5 game lead over the Cubs.
The Snappers will have over a week off before playing next Friday and Saturday in Quamba against the Cubs and Mora Blue Devils.
