Knights Start Week Off With a Win Over Bandits

The Hinckley Knights hosted Rum River on Tuesday night.

The Knights begin the week final week of the regular season hosting Rum River, a week in which they'll play 5 games in 6 days.

Hinckley got off to a hot start putting 11 runs on the board in the first 3 innings and not allowing a single hit till the 3rd inning. The Knights lead 11-1 heading into the 4th inning, up to this point they had scored a run in each of the first three innings. Shawn Ausmus started off the 4th with a base hit but then two straight outs made it appear as if was going to be a quick inning. But 2 errors from the Bandits and a walk lead to Ausmus scoring a run, which extended the streak to 4 straight innings with a run scored.

The pitching and defense of the Knights was in firm control the entire game, but the 5th inning saw the Rum River bats start to come to life. The Bandits had two players on and Kevin Auth came to the plate. He hit what appeared to be a homerun, which wound up staying in the park because of the wall in right field. Still the big hit was good enough to score 2 runs and cut into the Knights lead. The next three innings the Knights were held without a run, still leading 12-4. The Knights had been searching for their game ending run for the last couple of innings but the Bandits would not go away easily. Then in the bottom of the 8th the Knights Cale Haugen smacked an RBI double to right field giving the Knights one of the two runs they needed to end the game with the 10 run rule. With the bases loaded Griffin Stiel was the next at bat, but he didn't even need to swing as he drew a walk to push home the final run.

With the win the Knights are in 2nd place in the division 1.5 games behind Princeton. They'll host Ham Lake Wednesday night.
