Lady Dragons Defense Helps Carry them Past Legacy Christian

Pine City played Legacy Christian Academy on Saturday at St. Ben's.

This game was a rematch from earlier in the season, when the Dragons lost by a single point.

The Dragons were looking to get some revenge on the Lions, but they knew it wouldn't be easy. The first half was a bit of a struggle on both sides of the ball. While the Dragons didn't play bad on either side of the court, it just seemed like everything was going the Lions way. Legacy found some early success from three and were shooting over 70% from beyond the arc, which is unheard of. So this put the Dragons behind and their offense was setting up well and getting good shots off, but just couldn't get them to fall. Defensively, they were playing well and not getting out of position but the long ball was just not missing for the Lions. As we neared the end of the 1st, Pine City was down by 8. Despite all the bounces and shots going the Lions way, the Dragons were right in it. Pine City would go on to end the half on a 13-5 run, which had them trailing 23-22 at the half.

Much of the 2nd half was a back and forth dual, when one team scored the other would match it. Even if a team was able to go on a short 4-6 point run, the other side would find a way to do the same. This continued for what felt like all of the half but then came a big turning point. The Lions got into some foul trouble and there was one close call that changed it all. Legacy was called for a foul, which they took exception to, and this lead to a technical foul being called. So the Dragons went to the free throw line for four shots, which they converted. And from there on it was all Pine City. The Dragons finished the game on an incredible 22-3 run, dominating on both sides of the ball. As the buzzer sounded they came away with the win 63-46!

Pine City will have another rematch in the semi finals at St. Ben's on Tuesday, against Milaca.
