Pine City hosted St. Francis on Friday night.
The Dragons came in looking for one final win on the regular season, but also to keep a top 5 spot for the playoffs.
Early on this game felt like a playoff game, although these teams aren't even in the same class, it still had that buzz about it. Pine City matched up very well and it was a very even 1st half. These teams nearly mirrored each other at times, both had two very good post players but they also had others who could get it done on the perimeter. It was a tight half and neither team could pull away. At the end of the half, Pine City lead 34-29.
The 2nd half was once again close but one team swiped momentum. The Saints opened up the half with a 13-3 run taking the lead. But the Dragons weren't going to give the game away and they quickly got back within one. St. Francis however never surrendered the momentum they captured at the top of the half. They continued to move the ball at their pace and keep Pine City on their heels. The Dragons had the Saints in alittle foul trouble, but couldn't take advantage at the free throw line. They missed a total of 10 free throws which did play a factor. Despite this, they continued to battle but late in the game, St. Francis had a several takeaways on back to back possessions and stretched their lead to double digits. The Dragons never gave up but they fell just short 69-58.
