The Mora boys basketball team hosted Pierz this past Friday.
From the moment they tipped off this game was close. Back and forth scoring neither able to pull away from the other. Pierz built a small lead in the middle of the 1st half but Mora quickly came back and tied it up. Mora would wind up taking the lead right before halftime 32-30. The 2nd half gave us more of the same action. Both teams were battling hard, never giving each other an inch to breathe. Though both defense were playing well Mora’s was playing better. The Mustangs started to pull away with the lead, and the game felt like Mora had taken all control. But Pierz had different plans. The Pioneers used a few timeouts to help themselves out of an offensive slump. Sooner than later, Pierz had fought its way back into the game, even grabbing the lead late in the 2nd half. With under 30 seconds left, Mora found their way to the basket to tie the game. Both teams had plenty of chances to snag the lead but neither team was able to as the game went into overtime tied at 52. As soon as the extra time started the Mustangs took all momentum and didn’t look back. Mora grabbed the Granite Ridge Conference win 61-56. Leading the way for Mora was Lucas Athey with 15, followed by Caleb Anderson with 12.
Mora improved to 16-6 on the season. The Mustangs will host conference opponent Zimmerman tomorrow night, who they lost to earlier this month.
