The Dragons boys basketball team hosted Ogilvie on Tuesday night.
Pine City came into the night after a loss the previous night vs Zimmerman, the Lions came in fresh, as this was their first game of the season.
Ogilvie came out hot and started the game off with an 11-2 lead. The Lions forced Pine City into some tough shots, which they missed a good chunk of, and the Lions rebounded. But the Dragons called what proved to be a key timeout. After the timeout, Pine City went on a 9-0 scoring run to tie the game at 11. And after that the play on the court was even. Neither team seemed to have or gain a clear advantage over the other, and the lead never grew more than a couple points for either team. The Lions were able to force a couple turnovers and take a lead and were up by 3 late in the half. But Pine City would finish the half on a 10-0 run, thanks in large part to the turnovers they forced and they turned a good majority of them into points. At the half PC lead 32-25.
The 2nd half was once again very even between both teams. Each side played well but left some points behind, defensively both teams played very well. Again the Lions were able to get a few important takeaways and late in the game held a lead. They seemed to have swung momentum in their favor at least somewhat. It was crunch time and both sides were feeling it. In the final minute a lot happened both teams scored there were turnovers but both teams played pretty clean not drawing too many fouls. Under 10 seconds to go, the Lions lead by 2 and Pine City called a timeout. After the timeout, the Dragons got a quick inbound and a pass into the corner for a shot from 3 and they drilled it, and Ogilvie called timeout with 3 seconds to go. Now they looked to draw up the perfect play to score with zeros on the board. They came out and switched the inbounder and tried a deep pass, but it came up short into the hands of a Dragon defender and ended the game 55-54.
Pine City moved to 1-1 and 1-0 on the young conference season, while Ogilvie moved to 0-1.
