Pine City Falls to Section Foe Milaca

The Pine City Boys hosted Milaca on Monday night.

Both teams came in searching for the first section win of the season.

The Wolves came out and set the pace early on, offensively they moved the ball around and shot quick, defensively it was full court press trying to force Pine City to break it. The Wolves were out to an early 9-0 lead. But the Dragons were able to correct things on the fly. And soon they were able to break the press and get their offense rolling. The Wolves also piled up fouls early on getting them into foul trouble with 10 minutes left in the 1st half. This forced them to back off defensively, which the Dragons took advantage of. The Dragons took the lead at about the halfway mark, then it was a back and forth game. The Wolves would eventually find a small scoring run and go up by double digits. But just as halftime was approaching, the Dragons ended the half on a run of their own, and hit a buzzer beat three to head into the break down 35-32.

The Wolves came out and applied early pressure on the Dragons on both sides of the ball, scoring early and often and the defense was again creating turnovers. Even though they again jumped out to a lead more than 10, the Dragons fought back. Pine City found some momentum to help them drop the deficit to one possession late in the game. Milaca however was not going to give up the lead as they stole momentum and rebuilt their lead which they held onto for the 67-56 win.
