Pine City hosted East Central on Tuesday night.
It was a special night for both these teams, as this was their annual Pink Out game. A game in which they spread awareness for cancer as well as raise money.
At the start of the game, East Central got out to an early lead. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening set. The Dragons were able to quickly turn around and tie the set. At this point these teams would go back and forth, trading the lead and never able to extend it more than a couple points. As the set went along the Dragons were able to get into a rhythm and slowly but surely started to pull away. While the set was never out of hand for EC, the Dragons were doing just enough to keep the Eagles from making a comeback. Pine City took set one 25-17.
Set two got off to a similar start, the Eagles got an early lead, Pine City tied it and the set went back and forth. This time though, neither side was able to pull away from the other. Both teams had shaken off the nerves and had their fair share of momentum. At times during the set, it seemed unlikely the ball would touch the floor. Each side was diving and sliding to make one play after another, it was impressive to say the least. The Dragons had taken a lead late but the Eagles were quick to close the gap down to one. But that's when momentum swung hard, Pine City would finish off the set on a 7-2 run to win it 25-19.
Down 0-2 the Eagles weren't fazed and kept their composure and came out firing in the 3rd. Although they didn't score first they traded the lead multiple times as the set went along. But once again the Dragons found momentum and then capitalized on a few EC mistakes and were able to pull away. The final three points came via the serve ace from Abby Duclos who came off the bench to win the set 25-13 and the game 3-0.
Pine City wins their second game of the year, and they will travel to Braham on Thursday for a rematch from two weeks ago.
This is East Central's only game of the week, and they will play next Monday at MLWR.
Our Pine Insurance Player of the Game was Pine City's Allie Tollefson!
