War of 1812 Event at the Fur Post
An integral piece of American History lies just outside Pine City.
The North West Company Fur Post just off Pokegama Lake Road is hosting a re-enactment of the War of 1812 this Saturday.
Site Manager Patrick Schifferdecker said the event is a chance to talk about one of the "forgotten wars" in United States history. Schifferdecker mentioned that many people jump right from the Revolutionary War right to the Civil War, when the War of 1812 shouldn't be overlooked.
He added that it’s an opportunity to learn about the non-American faction in the War, the British, and their impact. The North West Trading Company was a British trading firm.
The War of 1812 Family Day is this Saturday at the North West Company Fur Post in Pine City, from 10 am to 4 pm.
