Chief Deputy Scott Grice from the Pine County Sheriff's Office has announced his candidacy for sheriff in November's election.
On March 26, Pine County Sheriff Jeff Nelson stated that he would not be seeking a fourth term in the position.
Grice was hired by the Pine County Sheriff's Office in 1995 as a water patrol officer and civil process server, and has also worked as a jailer/dispatcher, deputy, investigator, and sergeant.

"Having worked through the ranks, I understand the challenges our staff face and the importance of strong leadership, proper training, and support," Grice wrote in his announcement. "This experience allows me to make informed decisions that balance public safety, fiscal responsibility, and community trust."
As chief deputy, Grice said he oversees operations, personnel, and policy to "ensure the office runs efficiently."
Grice said his goals as sheriff would be to "continue strengthening community partnerships, investing in training and technology, and fostering a professional environment where employees feel valued and supported."
"I am running for Sheriff because leadership matters. I am committed to leading with experience, fairness, and respect for the people of Pine County," Grice said in the announcement. "Building trust between law enforcement and the community is essential, and I believe that trust is earned through transparency, consistency, and respectful interactions."
