6-12 News: Oil Pipeline Through Pine County

Proposed Pipeline through Pine County

A proposed pipeline that would run through Pine County is being met with some opposition.

The project in question is the Line 3 Pipeline.

The Line 3 Pipeline is currently in existence, however this would replace that line with a brand new one and would add 160 new miles through wilderness.

Enbridge Energy is the company responsible for the pipeline being built.

Some in local communities have spoken out against the construction, and in response the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce is hosting multiple meetings across the state, where citizens can let their voices be heard.

The next meeting is this Friday at the Grand Event Center in Mora at 10 am.

A map and more information about the pipeline can be found here.

Graduation Rates

Two local high schools continue to exceed state averages.

Both Mora and Ogilvie High Schools saw their graduation rates remain at nearly 10 percentage points above the state average.

The Mora Alternative Learning Center has increased the graduation rates of students who were at risk of not graduating by almost 18 percent in the last two years.

Statewide in 2016, 82.2 percent of all students graduated, 68.2 percent for students on free or reduced lunch, and 60.8 of special education students.

Rush City Motorcycle Chase

The Chisago County Sheriff’s Department was involved in a chase on Friday.

The suspect fled on a motorcycle.

In response, deputies deployed squad cars, a helicopter, and K9 unit in pursuit.

The suspect eventually ditched the motorcycle and changed clothes before going into hiding.

The chase ended when the suspect was found hiding, and the motorcycle was found to be stolen.
