Pine City Singers Headed to State Competition
Two local singers will represent Pine City at the state level this weekend.
After taking the top spots in the Pine City Sings talent competition this summer, Michaela Engh and Samantha Leger are headed to the statewide competition.
The two were the top finishers in June’s competition, and in doing so qualified for state.
They’ll perform on September 24th in St. Paul for the chance at more than $10,000 in cash and prizes, as well as $1500 for a local charity of their choice.
Cost for entire event ticket is $10 for those 12 and above. Event begins at 9AM. Finals begin at 7 PM.
DNR Updates for Waterfowl Season
The DNR is expecting an excellent start to the waterfowl hunting season this weekend.
Pine County is considered the central zone of Minnesota where the season will open this Saturday, September 23rd.
The DNR is also using this weekend as Take a Kid Hunting Weekend, where kids under 16 will be able to hunt for free accompanied by an adult.
“Small game hunting is an excellent way to introduce youth to hunting,” said Mike Kurre, DNR mentoring program coordinator.

Road Closed in Hinckley Today
A highly trafficked road is going to be closed today in Hinckley.
Old Highway 61 between 6th Street and Carriage Hill Drive will be closed until this evening.
The road work being completed is a culvert replacement.
The Sheriff’s Office is recommending using an alternate route for the day.
North Branch Football Coach Receives State Award
A local high school football coach was named coach of the week by the Minnesota Vikings.
North Branch Area High School Vikings’ head coach Sam Ferraro was named CBS Minnesota's High School Sports Rally Coach of the Week, sponsored by the Minnesota Vikings.
In addition to the award, the Minnesota Vikings will donate $1,000 to the North Branch Area Public Schools activities department
North Branch has started the season 3-0 with a 66-45 win over Duluth East on Friday night.
