Citizen of the Year Named in Pine City
The citizen of the year selection for Pine City has completed, and a community member has been named for the award.
Margergy Swanson of selected as citizen of the year in Pine City, through the nomination process where community members write in letters of recommendation.
Following that, a committee of community members decides what candidate will be chosen.
Swanson was born and raised in Pine City, moved to St. Cloud, and upon retirement has relocated back to her birthplace.
One of Swanson’s positive impacts on the community is forming the Library Foundation, which eventually helped move the project along.
An open house is planned for October 7th to celebrate Margery at the North West Company Fur Post, RSVP’s are accepted by calling or emailing the Pine City Chamber of Commerce.
Willow River I-35 Project Complete
The interstate 35 project between Willow River and Sturgeon Lake has been completed.
The project was finished ahead of schedule and on budget, which cost $13 million dollars and spanned 9 miles, including the improved facilities at the General Andrews Rest Stop Area.
Pine Center for the Arts Welcomes Gallery New for October
The Pine Center for the Arts is featuring a new artist and their works for October.
Todd Clercx, an artist and teacher, is behind the works of which he says, “honesty is essential”.
Clercx’s exhibit will include portraits, landscapes and paintings of classic cars.
The gallery for his work will open Friday, October 13th with wine, light appetizers, and a chance to meet the artists.
Motorcycle Fatal Crash in Sturgeon Lake
A fatal motorcycle crash occurred in the overnight hours of Sunday morning in Sturgeon Lake.
The Pine County Sheriff’s Office has identified the driver as 50-year-old David Kapanen of Sturgeon Lake.
Deputies were dispatched Sunday, September 24th at 2:00 am to respond to the crash.
Emergency responders and deputies arriving on the scene found a single motorcycle off the roadway, which appeared to have struck signs and a fence.
The driver was the only occupant and the crash is currently under investigation.
