Dragons Improve to 9-1 in Conference

The Pine City girls basketball team now hold an impressive 9-1 record in conference play after a big win against Onamia on Friday night. The Dragons are 16-4 overall with a little over three weeks left before the section playoffs.

From head coach Ted Hasz:

Pine City 90

Onamia 44

The Dragons moved to 9-1 in the Great River Conference and 16-4 over all with the victory over the Panthers. The Dragons had a slow start, falling behind 12-7. They then proceeded to take control of the game by going on a big 44-8 run the rest of the half to go into half time with a commanding lead. The second half was more of the same as the Dragons continued to build the lead. "After a bit of a slow start the kids became very focused and played with a sense of urgency. "We were very active on defense which led to some great opportunities on offense." Lily Wilson filled the stat sheet with 17 points, 10 assists, 9 steals and 4 rebounds. Ellie Hasz had 19 of her 22 points in the first half and also finished with 6 rebounds. Sophie Lahti had 12 points, 3 steals and 2 rebounds. Hannah Lorsung was also in double digits with 10 points and 3 rebounds. Ashley Faur had 8 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Emily Carpenter had 6 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals. Alaina Steele had 4 points, 2 assists and 2 steals. Chloe Alleman had 4 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Meredith Kolling had 4 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Jolie Wicktor had 3 points, 1 steal and 1 assist. It was a solid team effort after having a strange week of weather and school being called off. The Braham game has been reschedule for February 22nd. In the last 6 games over the next 3 weeks we will look to solidify some of the things that we feel will help us compete well in our section.
