A Pine County program to reform the way juvenile's are handled in the justice system has gained national attention after winning Georgetown University’s 2018 Capstone of the Year.
Project RISE was developed as a capstone project by a team of six people from Pine County who attended a conference held by the university. It works by implementing restorative and multi-system practices to reduce juvenile delinquency, placements, and truancy.
Since the program was implemented in 2016, the county has seen a decrease in offender recidivism.
The award from Georgetown University is the third award the program has gotten in a little over a year.
