False Report Causes Evacuation of Wyoming, Minn. Housing Complex

Joe Keyport

A false report of a shooting in the City of Wyoming led to the evacuation of an apartment building.

According to the Wyoming Police Department, authorities received a call just before 11 a.m. on Monday, June 3 from a woman who claimed her father had been shot dead inside a home on Goldman Ave.

When officers arrived, the female caller frantically sprinted from the house holding an infant child. She claimed her father was dead in the home, and the shooter was still inside with the caller's mother.

A neighboring townhouse complex on Goldman Ave. was evacuated to remove residents from the perceived danger.

The Chisago County SWAT Team was called to enter the home to locate the shooting victim, the caller's elderly mother, and the possible shooter.

Upon entry, authorities learned that the story was completely fabricated. The shooting did not take place, and no other people were found inside the home.

Once the area was cleared by law enforcement, neighboring residents were allowed to return to their homes.

The case remains under investigation as they explore charges of falsifying reports and/or making false statements to police against the woman who made the call.
