2nd Half Surge Not Enough as Jaguars Fall to Lions

Hinckley-Finlayson hosted Ogilvie Tuesday night in a girls basketball matchup in the Great River Conference.

As the action in the first half moved along both teams were fairly even. Ogilvie held a lead but the Jags kept themselves with in a few points of that lead. But as the 1st half played on the Lions caught fire from beyond the arc. Grace Heins hit 5 of Ogilvie's 11 threes in the first half. Bailey Heald and Kadence Pierce added 2 each, Alexa Peterson and Addison Reed each added another. This barrage of shots from deep helped carry them to a 49-19 lead at half.

The 2nd half was a bit of a different story. Ogilvie couldn't find the same rhythm shooting the ball and couldn't find any rebounds on the offensive glass. Meanwhile, for the Jaguars they started to see things go their way. They were able to grab most of the defensive rebounds to get themselves to the front court. Even if they weren't making a basket the offense made a staggering amount of rebounds for 2nd and even 3rd chance opportunities to score. In the first half the Lions seemingly made all the threes but they only managed two in the 2nd half, while the Jaguars were able to get 4 to fall. Sydney Kreger, Anna Degerstrom, Gracie Olson and Hannah Hartl each added a three. Although Hinckley-Finlayson seemed to control the majority of the 2nd half it was still not enough as the Lions came out on top 68-48. The Jaguars did outscore Ogilvie in the 2nd half 29-19.

With the loss Hinckley-Finlayson falls to 1-5 on the season. Their next game will be on Monday in Pine City.

With the win Ogilvie moves to 4-0 on the season and 4-0 in the conference, a strong start and an important one for the Lions. Their next test will be on Friday in Maple Lake.
