Chisago Lakes hosted Minneapolis Edison on Wednesday night.
The Wildcats came into the playoffs having won 4 of their last 5 games.
Early on both teams were getting out the playoff jitters. But eventually both sides settled into a groove. Early in the 1st set Edison was able to keep it close, but sooner than later the Wildcats shifted the game in their favor. They would dominate the rest of the set winning set 1 25-9.
Set 2 was not as lopsided as the 1st, while Chisago was clearly the better team, Edison was able to get a few well placed hits and forced a few mistakes from the Wildcats. This allowed the Tommies to keep themselves in a spot where a comeback was possible. But just as things looked to be favoring Edison, Chisago was quick to go on a scoring run and all but put the set away. The Wildcats would go on to win set 2 25-12.
With the match in a favorable spot, the Wildcats were able to rotate in a good chunk of the JV players. While some may expect a dip in play with JV players in, they were met with a stark contrast. They came in and started where their varsity players left off, dominating. Each of them made a play a some point in the set, that either scored or help them score. The Tommies fought hard and again made a few perfectly placed hits. But the hill was too tall to climb, and a couple of aces later the Wildcats won the third 25-11 and the match 3-0.
With the win the Wildcats move on to the section semi final on Friday, where they'll host Hill-Murray.
Our Pine Insurance Player of the Game was Kianna Osmundson, who had several serve aces in the game!
