Pine City hosted Proctor in a volleyball match Tuesday.
As the new school year began the volleyball season rolled on. Pine City had the benefit of hosting a game after the first day of school.
The Dragons got off to a good start in the 1st set, getting out to a 4-0 lead. The Rails battled back to tie the game and eventually take over the lead. Despite seeing their lead diminish, the Dragons were only a couple points behind. Proctor was able to hold onto the lead for a good amount of the 1st set, but Pine City's drive lead to them swinging momentum back in their favor. They would not only tie the game but take the lead and go on an impressive run to win the opening set 25-18.
The Dragons looked to take that swagger into the 2nd set. Sadly, Proctor was able to take control of the set early on. While the score of set 2 shows it to be lopsided in favor of the Rails, 25-9, the Dragons played a lot harder than that score. As the match pushed forward into the 3rd set, the Rails had swung back momentum in their favor. But the 3rd set seemed like it had got back to even. Each team had their share of scoring runs and mistakes. The Rails were able to capitalize more on the Pine City mistakes and were able to finish off the set winning 25-16.
The Dragons were not about to give up though, they still had a ton of fight. In the 4th set, it looked much like the 1st. Both teams were playing well and the momentum was certainly even. While Proctor had the lead, Pine City was never far behind and kept themselves close. As the set wore on it seemed all Pine City needed was to tie the game and get the lead back and they would run away with it. Sadly, some mistakes and errors by the Dragons lead to the Rails capitalize and pull away winning the 4th set and the match 3-1.
While Pine City has not yet won a game, they continue to show improvement each and every match. Their first win will come soon, and they will continue to get better as the season goes along.
They'll host Braham on Thursday for their second conference match of the year.
The Pine Insurance Agency Player of the Game was Senior Taylar Hejny!
