The Lady Dragons hosted Hermantown last night.
The game got off to a fast start, but the Dragons pulled out to an early lead. Shortly after building a lead, Hermantown changed the pace and quickly erased the Dragons lead and took it over. The Hawks were able to work the ball back on offense before the Dragons had a chance to catch up. Pine City seemed to be surprised at the quick play of the Hawks and found themselves trailing by 10. But before the half Pine City was able to make adjustments of the fly and started to slow the Hawks. Their defense created some turnovers and capitalized off of them and started to chip away at the Hermantown lead. At the half Pine City trailed 25-31.
The Dragons came out of the half on a mission, their defense turned up the pressure and created problems for the Hawks offense. Soon that pressure started to create turnovers and Pine City's offense scored points off of those. Hermantown saw their lead disappear as the Dragons had tied the game. From that point it was a back and forth game, both sides trading points. This would continue until late in the game. With just under 3 minutes left the Dragons once again took the lead, but this time for good. Hermantown had no options but to foul and send Pine City to the line. The Dragons made good of the free throw attempts and pulled away. The Dragons grabbed the victory 63-52. With the win Pine City improves to 11-3 on the season and extends their current win streak to 8 games! They're set to host Great River Conference foe Hinckley-Finlayson tonight.
