Jaguars Fall to Barnum in Final Seconds

Hinckley-Finlayson hosted Barnum on Friday.

The game started and both teams were anxious to get the first score. While neither team scored as quickly as they would've liked, eventually the first bucket was found. It was a close game throughout the 1st half, but the Jags did a good job of keeping momentum in their favor. Both teams had their fair share of turnovers, H-F managed to commit a few less than Barnum. The Jags also put the Bombers into foul trouble early, which allowed them to get to the free throw line. The Jags lead late in the 1st half, but Barnum quickly turned up the pressure and forced them into mistakes which lead to Barnum inching closer. It seemed like H-F was going to be able to keep the lead heading into half, but Barnum hit a buzzer beater to take a 20-19 at the break.

A buzzer beater shot like that before half can certainly hurt a teams confidence. The Jags trailed for the first couple minutes of the 2nd half, but soon took the lead back. The 2nd half was short on points but not on effort. Again turnovers reared their ugly head for both teams, but each side was able to overcome those. H-F lead late in the game, but the Bombers went on a run and took the lead. The Jags offense struggled to find a bucket but the players were still confident and knew they would eventually score. Their resilience paid off, they scored and retook the lead. As the clock was under a minute to go, the Jags lead by two and their defense made it difficult for Barnum to get a shot off. With 10 seconds to go the Bombers found an open shot and hit a three to take a one point lead. H-F had time for maybe one more shot. As they got near the 3 point line, a shot was taken that missed, but there was still time for a rebound and shot, they grabbed the rebound but missed the shot, but they got one more rebound with time left, but they couldn't hold on as the ball rolled out of bounds with no time left, leading to a 34-33 loss.

Despite the loss, H-F has alot of good things to build off of for the rest of their season.
