Lady Dragons Fall to Foley on Senior Night

The Pine City girls basketball team hosted Foley on Monday night.

Before the game began the team honored not only the seniors but also the foreign exchange students. As the teams lined up for tip off, Emma Belsheim made her way to the court as a starter. She has unfortunately been dealing with a knee injury that has kept her out for the better part of the last two seasons. But tonight she was able to take the court as a starter at home one final time. Foley gave a kind gesture of allowing Pine City to win the tip and hand the ball to Emma for the first 10 seconds of the game. The team gathered around to show their love and support for her, much like she has given the team in her time.

The Dragons started off the game with a lead but Foley soon turned it back around in their favor. The 1st half was back and forth, each team taking over the lead before the other came right back. Late in the half it seemed like the Falcons were going to pull away, but the Dragons effort and determination brough them back. Pine City was able to tie the game just before halftime at 29 a piece.

Both offenses really came to life ion the 2nd half. For the Dragons they got off to a fast start in the 2nd but just couldn't seem to maintain it. Foley however managed to force some key turnovers and turn those into points. Their full court pressure bothered the Dragons all night and gave them even more opportunities to score. The 2nd half was once again back and forth, but late in the game the Falcons were able to jump out to a double digit lead. Pine City answered a few times to drop the deficit back down to single digits but couldn't overcome. The Dragons fell 69-60.

With the loss Pine City drops to 16-6 on the season. Their last three games are on the road and will not be easy. They'll play Milaca, Proctor and Royalton in the last three, each of which will basically be a playoff game.

For Foley they seem to be getting hot at the perfect time! They're record now stands at 12-9. They'll play two more game on the road, before hosting Mora in the regular season finale.
