March Storms Knockout Power for Thousands of Residents

Winter storms left thousands of central Minnesota residents without power over the weekend.

East Central Energy reported that nearly 7000 of their members lost power early Sunday morning with freezing rain, snow, and wind knocking out at least 50 of their poles.

The National Weather Service reported that four inches of heavy, wet snow had fallen in the Moose Lake area.

The energy provider said they are working with neighboring utilities and contractors to get power restored, and as of 8:00 a.m. Monday, about 500 people were still without power.
