A 57-year-old man is dead following a Friday night car fire in Isanti County.
Responders were called to the area of Palm St. NW and 323 Ave. NW in Springvale Township around 9:15 p.m. after receiving a call of a vehicle on fire in the trees.
Due to the flames, deputies could not see inside the vehicle upon arrival. It was after the Cambridge Fire Department put out the blaze that the body of a person was found inside.
Authorities were unable to recover a VIN or license plate number because of the fire damage to the vehicle.
A short time later, deputies were advised of a missing person who was last seen leaving the Mora area around 7:30 p.m. that same evening. It was determined that the body was the missing person, Douglas Erickson of Isanti.
Erickson's body was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
