The Dragons welcomed in the Wolverines on Friday night.
Pine City came into the evening having lost two games, in which they feel like they could've won. Tonight's game would be another opportunity for them to do such. The weather made things quite messy, but isn't it everyone's dream to play under the lights on their home field in the mud? Well maybe not everyone, but for some it is.
As the game began it was evident the rain was playing a factor, while there was only one turnover in 1st quarter there were chances for more. Neither team was really able to put a drive together. Each team had two possessions but they couldn't seem to overcome the elements. In the 2nd quarter both teams seemed to understand how to navigate the rain, but it also did start to end. Rock Ridge was able to score first on a long drive. Pine City put together their own long sustained drives, but they saw two of them end on turnovers. And when they did keep a drive together, they had a couple of penalties that would erase a big chunk play. While their offense couldn't break through, their defense was standing strong and the score at half was 6-0 RR.
In the 2nd half, the Wolverines made a change at QB, and it seemed to give them a spark. On their lone possession of the 3rd Rock Ridge was able to score on a QB keeper and get the 2 point conversion to make 14-0. The Dragons continued to play hard and fight. They were several plays they had that would've changed the look of the game had they been able to convert them. A few of them were pass plays, where Evan Doenz made some really well placed and timed throws to players who were open. But the mud certainly played a factor as the receivers couldn't real in the ball, no matter what they tried. These plays could've easily been enough for one or two scores. Despite these misses, they were not backing down. Rock Ridge scored once more in the 4th and that would be all as Pine City fell 20-0.
The Dragons continue to show the improvement. They will no doubt get their first win of the season soon!
Our Pine Insurance Player of the Game was Evan Doenz
He 33 yards rushing threw the ball well and made some big tackles defensively.
