Pine City Played in a Close Battle with Becker

Coach Kristin Unverzagt gives us a look at the teams match vs Becker.

The Dragon tennis team traveled to Becker to play a tough match tonight.  We lost a close 3-4 battle but continue to show improvement.

We set a stronger pre-season schedule to help us prepare for conference and section play.

Our singles had strong battles with Brooke earning a dominant win at 1 singles.  She dictated the points and controlled the match for our only singles win.

Alana Linnell battled hard to come back in the second set and played strong with her aggressive shots and strong net play but fell short with a tough 5-7 loss in the second set. Alyssa Miller was at third singles but lost 3-6, 3-6 to a strong opponent.  Myra Roubinek showed determination and grit in her match as she battled back in the second set but fell short 5-7, 4-6.

Our doubles teams won at first (Vivian Lahti/Kate Unverzagt) and third doubles (Mallory Clepper/Kendall Steele) with their smart placement and movement.  They set up their partners to play strong and finish the points.  Our second doubles duo (Brecklyn Nicoll/Lily Rootkie) battled hard against a tough and aggressive Becker team as well.

The team will continue to learn from this match and use it to help us push and reach our goals this season.

We host North Branch on Thursday and then are off until we begin conference play next Thursday, September 4 in Foley.
