The Dragons boys basketball team made their way over to Annandale for the opening round of the playoffs.
Pine City got a very good matchup to begin the playoffs. The Cardinals were the #6 seed Pine City the #11 seed, and it was the most even matchup of the playoffs.
The Dragons jumped out to an early lead on a shot from beyond the perimeter. After the quick start both teams caught fire shooting the ball, the lead traded hands multiple times and the game was tied for a good margin of time. Late in the 1st half Annandale had managed to pull ahead, they were able to pick up some key defensive rebounds and turn them into points. But the Dragons were able to score a couple quick points and cut the deficit down to seven at half 35-28. Luke Wilson was able to score his 1,000th career point before the half ended!
After the half Pine City had found their rhythm on offense they had early on in the 1st half. The teams traded the lead but kept it close late into the game. The Dragons found a way to draw fouls from Annandale and get to the charity stripe. They couldn't convert as many of the free throws as they would've liked and the Cardinals took advantage of those misses. Annandale pulled out to a 10 point lead, but Pine City much like they have all year fought back to cut the lead down to only a few points. The clock soon became a factor and Pine City had no choice but to send Annandale to the free throw line. They converted and once again widened their lead. Sadly the Dragons simply ran out of time and came up short 69-59.
Pine City finishes the season with a 13-14 record and tied for 2nd in the Great River Conference.
Congratulations to the Dragons on an awesome year!
