Press Release:
The University of Minnesota Pine County Master Gardeners will feature native plants and
heirlooms at their annual plant sale on Wednesday, May 24 beginning at 6:30 a.m. until sold out. It will be held at the Pine County Fairgrounds 4-H Building in Pine City.
With one out of three mouthfuls of our food and drink requiring a pollinator and 85% of the
world’s 320,000 plants depending on insects for pollination, it is critical that we do what we can to increase the number of pollinator-friendly plants in our gardens and landscapes. The Master Gardeners will try to do their part by offering nine native plants for sale at this plant sale.
In addition, there will be heirloom tomatoes, peppers, and herbs. The Master Gardeners will
also have perennial specialty plants that they have grown in their gardens. There will also be a garden treasures tent with garden items including used pots, tools, books, and ornaments.
Proceeds from the sale will be used by the master gardeners for community projects and
educational scholarships.
