Rush City hosted Hinckley-Finlayson in the Section 7AA first round of the playoffs.
These conference foes faced off twice during the regular season. The Tigers came in as the #1 seed and the conference champs, while the Jags came in as the #8 seed.
The first set wasted no time getting the blood flowing for both fan bases. The teams early couldn't pull away from each other, when one team scored the other came right back and scored to tie the set. As the set wore on, the Tigers began to pull away, but the Jags were not going away easily. The Jags continued to battle back and forced the Tigers into some mistakes. Rush City was able to overcome those mistakes and win the set 25-15.
The 2nd set was a battle early on once again, this time the Jags took a lead early on. The Tigers battled from behind and eventually took the lead and never looked back. Rush City won the 2nd set 25-14.
The 3rd set was fun, crazy and all around entertaining. The Jags again took an early lead and would even build up a small lead. Rush City was able to come back and tie the game, but only shortly. Hinckley-Finlayson was a team on a mission, they were underdogs coming but had alot to prove. And they were certainly doing so. They were at points dominate, and seemed like they could do no wrong. The Tigers had played from behind before so they were no strangers to this situation. And like we've seen throughout the season, they were able to come back to tie the game. Even after the game was tied both teams were reluctant to give the other side any sort of momentum. Late in the set, the Tigers had finally managed to take a lead, and built it up by a few points. Just when it looked like Rush City was going to finish off the set, the Jags were quick to turn things around and battle back. The Jags continued to fight and battled back, but the Tigers were able to find the final few points and finish off the set 25-19.
For Hinckley-Finlayson, the season does come to an end. But they should be proud of how they played against the top team in the section and excited about the teams future. Congrats to the Jags on a great season!
For the Rush City the playoffs continue and they'll host Barnum on Friday at 7PM.
