Rush City played Crosby-Ironton on Wednesday night.
The Tigers played in Hermantown against the Rangers in the section semi final. This was a game Rush City was looking forward to. They had lost to them during the regular season and were looking for some revenge.
It didn't take long for the teams to settle into the game and the action was intense. Neither team was able to take a lead larger than only a few points in the opening set. It certainly felt like the Tigers had momentum but the Rangers kept themselves close. Throughout the 1st the teams traded blows and saw the lead change hands a lot. It wasn't until late in the set that Rush City was able to put the Rangers on their heels and take a lead that they were able to finish off the set with a 25-20 win.
The win in the 1st allowed the Tigers to come into the 2nd set with a ton of momentum. They jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Rangers were able to score a point. The Tigers continued to build on their lead and it seemed like a runaway set. But that was far from the case, Crosby was not going down easily. Slowly but surely Crosby chipped away at the Tigers lead and were able to tie the set. The Rangers were even able to take the lead at one point, and it was a tug of war at the end of the set. One team would score set point, then the other was able to tie the game again, which sent the set into extra points. The Tigers had all the energy seemingly drained on this Crosby run, and were powering through the adversity. They stuck with their gameplan and eventually broke through to win the set 27-25.
Leading 2-0 Rush City came into the 3rd set ready to try and finish it off. They could've easily had a let down, getting caught thinking too far ahead. But this was far from the case, the Tigers kept their heads down and tore through the 3rd set, leaving nothing to doubt winning it 25-11, winning the match 3-0.
With the win the Tigers are headed back to the Section Championship and will play Esko on Saturday at 4PM!
