Pine City residents will have a chance to get out and become better acquainted with their community as part of the 35th annual National Night Out taking place this evening.
Executive Director of Pine City’s Chamber of Commerce Becky Schueller said, "Every year its kind of our way to give back to the community, but it also gives them a chance to meet people in the community."
Part of the event's goal is to help community members meet the members of local fire department and sheriff's office. Essentia Health will also be bringing an ambulance for people to see, and there will be different service groups from the Pine City area providing family friendly activities.
When Pine City started participating in National Night Out, it focused more on individual neighborhoods hosting events for residents as opposed to the city putting on events as a whole. Schueller wants to encourage neighborhoods in the area to to start hosting their own events again.
Schueller said, "It's pretty simple to put these activities together and its really inviting for people."
All activities for Pine City's National Night Out will be held at Robinson Park in downtown Pine City. The event begins at 7 P.M. and will feature a screening of the 2017 film "Wonder".
WCMP will also be at Robinson Park to play music at 6:30 p.m. and host a live broadcast from 7-8 p.m.
